You'll become a specialist in digital media and design, including animation (2D and 3D), digital video, motion graphics, special effects, interactive media and sound design.
Presented in a creative, supportive environment, the program focuses on intellectual investigation and conceptual development.
Program graduates demonstrate aesthetic and intellectual maturity and strong technical abilities within design, media and art disciplines.
Students and staff enjoy wide national and international acknowledgement and exhibit in festivals and conferences like Siggraph, MIAF, LIAF, MILIA and Annecy.
All staff are practising artists, designers and industry practitioners. They are experienced educators actively engaged in research in their areas of expertise.

Features
Learning and teaching
RMIT offers a variety of learning and teaching approaches including lectures, seminars, studios, workshops, presentations, group discussions and syndicate work. These are primarily in English.
You will have access to the Learning Hub and other online and digital resources through the myRMIT student portal.
Ongoing assessment throughout the semester includes examinations, essays, reports, oral classes, presentations, group projects, research projects, laboratory projects and practical assignments.
Program structure
Year 1
Via imaging, design, media culture and design studio, you will receive a comprehensive introduction to the theory and practice of digital media. You will cover areas of narrative development, as well as developing performance, visual and aural literacy.
Year 2
In Semester 1, you will study 2D animation, 3D animation, interactive media and video.
In Semester 2 you'll choose electives from 2D animation, 3D animation, sound design, interactive media, video, experimental video, experimental sound and alternative animation.
Year 3
In the final year the emphasis is on collaborative and conceptual development. The final outcome will be an industry-ready folio showcasing your skills and abilities.

An Honours year is available.

Prerequisites
Current Year 12 prerequisite units 3 and 4 - a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or at least 25 in any other English.
Selection tasks
Semester 1
Pre-selection kit: Applicants must obtain an RMIT University Animation and Interactive Media pre-selection kit online and submit it by emailing baaim@rmit.edu.au or by calling +61 3 9925 8325. Applicants must submit a completed kit by 5 October 2012.
Folio presentation (short-listed applicants only): Short-listed applicants will be required to attend the folio presentation in November/December. We'll contact you by phone or email in November with more information. Overseas or interstate applicants who are unable to attend the folio presentation must email baaim@rmit.edu.au by 14 November 2012.
Advisory letters will be sent in December.
Semester 2
Midyear intake is only for internal applicants articulating from TAFE and/or who have advanced standing allowing them to commence from semester 2 of the program. Applicants must complete and submit a pre-selection kit with their application. Short-listed applicants may be required to attend a folio presentation.

Fees
Tuition fees vary according to program and are adjusted annually.
In a Commonwealth supported place (CSP) your tuition fee is shared between you and the Commonwealth Government - if you meet the eligibility criteria.
Fee assistance
As a Commonwealth supported student, you may be able to either:
- pay all or part of your student contribution up front and receive a 10% discount, or
- defer your tuition fees through the HECS-HELP loan scheme.
