Dr Switkowski is chairman of Suncorp and a director of listed companies Tabcorp, Oil Search and Lynas. Dr Switkowski is the former chairman of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, Opera Australia, and a former Chief Executive Officer of Telstra, Optus and Kodak (Australia). He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, and of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Dr Switkowski was appointed Chancellor in October 2010. Professor Margaret Gardner commenced as Vice-Chancellor and President of RMIT University on 4 April 2005. Professor Gardner has had a prominent career as an academic, working in a number of Australian institutions including Griffith University, the University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, and Deakin University. She has been a member of various committees in the areas of the arts, education and industrial relations, and is currently a member of the Council of Australia Latin American Relations (COALAR) and Chair of their Education Advisory Group, Higher Education Research Reference Group, LH Martin Institute Advisory Board, Australian Technology Network, the Australian Defence Force’s Reference Group on Women, Australian-American Fulbright Commission Board, the ANZAC Centenary Advisory Board and a director on the Open Universities Australia Board. Professor Gardner currently chairs the Museums Board of Victoria, RMIT International University Vietnam Pty Ltd and RMIT Vietnam Holdings Pty Ltd. In 2007, Professor Gardner was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in recognition of service to tertiary education, particularly in the areas of university governance and gender equity, and to industrial relations in Queensland. Dr Gilmour has extensive experience as a senior manager in government and not-for-profit organisations. She was CEO of Earthwatch Institute (Australia) and has held senior roles at the Australia Council for the Arts. She is a fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and was awarded an OAM for services to the environment. Dr Gilmour has served on the Board of a number of organisations. She was a member of the Australian National Commission for UNESCO, a member of the Australian Biological Resources Study Advisory Committee from 2002 – 2006, and a Director of Parks Victoria for 6 years from 1998-2003. Ms Latchford is currently President of Epworth Healthcare. She is a member of the Finance, Patient Care, Board Audit and Compliance, and Major Property committees, and is the Chair of the Remuneration and Nominations committee. Ms Latchford has a finance background and has over 20 years experience in senior management roles in a major Australian Mulitnational group. Her areas of interest include Finance and Accounting, IT and Strategy. Ms Latchford has also been involved in youth mentoring with the Ardoch Youth Foundation and is a previous Chair and a board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters Australia. Ms Lever is the Director of Just Ideas, a business she established in 2005 to assist organisations develop, design and deliver creative service solutions. She was the CEO of the Children’s Protection Society from 1999 - 2005. Prior to this she was Managing Director of Work and Family Connections Australia and the Child Care Connection. Ms Lever has held executive positions in a range of Victorian government departments including Community Services, Health, Labour and Industry, and board membership of the Peter McCallum Hospital and the Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare. She is currently the Chair of Great Connections Ltd and a member of the Melbourne IVF Human Reserach Ethics Committee. Ms Lever’s expertise is in organisational management, policy development, innovation and strategic planning. She is also a published author. Ms O’Donnell has over 25 years management experience across a number of industries including information communication and technology, utilities, education and government. She was previously CEO of Freshtel Holdings, leaving the organisation in 2009 to become an independent consultant and company director. Ms O’Donnell was the CEO and Chair of Novell Asia Pacific. She was responsible for the management of Novell’s entire Asia Pacific operation encompassing 13 Countries. Ms O’Donnell was awarded the Victorian Telstra Business Woman of the Year in 1999. Under her leadership, (as Managing Director), Global Customer Solutions won Victorian Call Centre of the year in 1999 and Australian Call Centre of the Year in 1999. Mr Pekarek has over 35 years experience in industry. From 1996 to 2003 he was the Chair and Managing Director of Siemens Ltd. in Melbourne, responsible for Siemens’ business in Australia and New Zealand. Prior executive positions held with Siemens were in the company’s power generation group in Germany. Mr Pekarek’s particular focus included corporate strategy, business development, leadership and organisational development, project management, and international technology transfer. From 2004 to 2007, Mr Pekarek was Chair of Boulder Steel Ltd. and a Director of Asia Pacific Seamless Tubes Ltd. Professor Julianne Reid BPharm(Hons), Phd (Queensland) Chair, Academic Board |
Professor Reid is the Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor, Learning and Teaching in the College of Science Engineering and Health, as well as Chair of Academic Board, and is responsible for providing strategic leadership in learning and teaching at the University and College level. She has broad experience in academic leadership, teaching and program development. She was Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) from December 2009 to August 2010, and has held a range of academic positions including Foundation Discipline Head of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Director of Undergraduate Studies, and Head of School of Medical Sciences. Professor Reid completed her doctorate in the discipline of pharmacology, and her research interests are focused on the development of new therapeutic strategies to treat cardiovascular problems associated with diabetes mellitus. She has held a number of research fellowships at the University of West Virginia in the US, Astra Cardiovascular Research Laboratories in Gothenburg, Sweden and the University of Melbourne. Since 2004, Ms Schulze has worked as a consultant in education and training, management and multicultural issues in the public and not for profit sectors. Recent clients include State and Commonwealth Departments, TAFE Institutes, not for profit organisations and peak ethnic community groups. From 1997 – 2003 Ms Schulze was the Chief Executive Officer of Adult Multicultural Education Services, the largest specialist organisation of its kind in Australia. Prior to this she held senior management positions in TAFE Institutes and has been a member of a number of Commonwealth and State advisory committees. She currently chairs a number of tender and award selection panels for Skills Victoria. Ms Schulze has served on a number of Government and not for profit Boards over the past ten years, most recently the Board of the TAFE (VET) Development Centre and the Victorian Board of Adult community and Further Education (ACFE). Ms Schulze served on the board of Hanover Welfare Services for 10 years (2002-2011) and is a Life Member of that organisation. In October 2012, Ms Thorn joined the partnership of Deloitte Australia. Prior to that she was the Secretary of the Department of Health until January 2012, where she was responsible for a portfolio covering health, mental health and aged care. Previous appointments include Secretary, Department of Human Service and Secretary, Department of Innovation Industry and Regional Development. Under Secretary with the Department of Sustainability and Environment, and Deputy Secretary of the Policy and Cabinet Group in the Department of Premier and Cabinet. Between 1996 and 2001 Ms Thorn was a Director of KPMG Consulting Pty Ltd, in Australia and then Hong Kong. She primarily consulted to the education sector and Government, providing advice on policy implementation, program evaluation strategy, costing and refocussing service delivery and future directions at Government and the funded institution level. Prior to joining KPMG, Ms Thorn had 17 years experience in public sector administration. She has been actively involved in managing implementation of reforms in government service delivery in education and training at a system-wide level and in the management of human resources at a public sector-wide level.
