Many students who enrol in this program are already working in the field and are updating their qualifications. Others have careers in related fields (health, environment, governance) and use the International Urban and Environmental Management (IUEM) program to reorient their careers. Some students are recent graduates studying the program to establish a career in this area.
1.5 years full-time or 3 years part-time
The Master incorporates Graduate Diploma: 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time and Graduate Certificate: 6 months full-time or 1 year part-time.
RMIT offers a variety of learning and teaching approaches including lectures, seminars, studios, workshops, presentations, group discussions and syndicate work. These are primarily in English.
You will have access to the Learning Hub and other online and digital resources through the myRMIT student portal.
Ongoing assessment throughout the semester includes examinations, essays, reports, oral classes, presentations, group projects, research projects, laboratory projects and practical assignments.
This Master of Social Science (International Urban and Environmental Management) (IUEM) incorporates a Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma. You can also enrol directly into these intermediate awards.

The master is accredited by the Planning Institute of Australia, provided students complete the requirements. To achieve this accreditation, students must complete 4 core courses and 4 planning electives.

If you satisfy the following requirements you will be eligible for selection; however, there is no guarantee that you will be selected as demand for the program varies each intake.
An Australian undergraduate degree with a GPA of 2.5 (65%) or above, or its equivalent, in social sciences or a discipline related to environment and planning or international development. Applicants with an undergraduate degree from another discipline must have paid or voluntary Australian industry experience in relevant fields like environment or planning. Applicants with significant paid or voluntary Australian industry experience in relevant fields like environment or planning may also be considered.
