Driving innovation through collaboration
Hub Melbourne hosts the inaugural Design for Collaboration event.

Students and staff from RMIT University recently took part in the inaugural Design for Collaboration event hosted by Hub Melbourne.
Hub Melbourne is a professional member community which was established in 2011 to drive innovation through collaboration.
As part of a global network of 25 Hubs and over 4,000 members, it provides individuals and organisations with a thriving space for co-working, meetings and events.
Design for Collaboration is a new bi-monthly event series which stems from an ongoing relationship between the School of Management and Hub Melbourne.
It speaks to RMIT’s focus on design and the Hub’s emphasis on collaboration.
Dr Tim Butcher, Associate Head, Industry Engagement, School of Management, said: “The series aims to create an on-going dialogue between RMIT staff, Hub members and the wder community. We intend to achieve this by sharing interesting and innovative research and teaching ideas.”
Professor Martin Wood from the School of Management opened the event with the screening of his award-winning ethnographic short film, Lines of Flight.
The film is a documentary of free solo rock climbing and its associations with work in post-industrial society in the Pennines, UK. Professor Wood co-directed the film with Sally Brown from Durham University.
The film uses methods drawn from the creative arts to examine patterns of popular culture and studies of people at play.
This helps generate levels of emotion and feeling which are often difficult to come by in more conventional modes of social scientific enquiry and representation.
“Events like this make an important contribution to RMIT’s role within the wider community by providing a public forum for sharing research and ideas,” Professor Wood said.
