What is SLAMs?

SLAMs are volunteer students who have received a High Distinction or Distinction in one of the relevant courses and are willing to offer two hours per week during the semester from weeks 4 to 11.

SLAMs support new and commencing students with their academic studies in RMIT’s College of Business.

When and where?

SLAMs are available at the following times:
Monday to Friday: 9am – 5:30pm

The SLAMs room is currently located in Building 80, Level 3. You don’t need to make an appointment to see a SLAM, however, mentors are only available as per the timetable.

Timetable for SLAM's supported courses

SLAMs can provide assistance for the following undergraduate, postgraduate and TAFE courses. View supported courses for your level of study:

Undergraduate | Postgraduate | TAFE

It is the SLAMs’ goal to assist you to become a self-managed learner.

SLAMs can…

  • answer your specific questions when you are struggling to understand any aspects of the coursework or your assignments.
  • share strategies with you on how to tackle each particular course.

SLAMs cannot…

  • write your assessment tasks for you.
  • hand out their phone numbers or email addresses.
  • provide a copy of their own course notes or previous assignments.

Please note: attending SLAMs’ sessions will not ensure that you pass. SLAMs’ cannot be held liable for your results

Become a SLAMs volunteer

Have you achieved a High Distinction or Distinction? You should come and join SLAMs.

SLAMs can receive a Certificate of Appreciation at five different levels for each semester of service, ranging from bronze (one semester) to platinum (five semesters or more).

I joined SLAMs because I like helping out other people... It’s good to do what I can for someone else and help them through difficult subjects. It’s good fun, I really enjoy it.

Oh, one last thing…

Bring appropriate course materials, specific questions and assessment tasks to the SLAMs’ session.

SLAMs recommend that you attend lectures and tutorials and have attempted to answer the questions to make the most use of your SLAMs’ session.
