Michael Short ('The Zone', Fairfax)
Michael Short is a leading thinker on the role of business and economics of community value. He was founding European chief executive of NewsAlert, a real-time information channel of news and applications for websites. Michael is an ambassador for the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre, and a board member of Little Dreams and the Young & Well Cooperative Research Centre—a CRC focused on exploring the role of technologies in improving young people’s mental health and wellbeing.
Speakers
Melina Morrison
Melina builds social capital through profitable social businesses. She is a director of Australia’s Secretariat for the UN Year of Cooperatives and a founding director of Social Business Australia. Melina is a widely published author on cooperatives and the social economy.
Daniel Almagor
Danny effects social and environmental change through business. He is the founder wisdom council for Hub Melbourne, and Social Entrepreneur in Residence at RMIT. Danny and his wife operate Small Giants, a business with impact which includes Dumbo Feather, T.O.M, The Commons and local Vietnamese restaurant Pots n Pans.
Mark McKenzie-McHarg
Mark has a strong focus in robust business planning to build social enterprises. He is the founder of the Yackandandah Community Development Co. Ltd which trades in fuel and rural supplies, and the local newspaper business. Mark works with a number of regionally focused social and community enterprises through Mach II Consulting.
