Email

RMIT provides all students with a free email account upon enrolment. Your student email account is generated and a record of your details is created on the student administration system when you are offered a place at RMIT University.

The University’s email provider is Google mail (Gmail). You may already have a personal Gmail account, but this one is different, and you do not have to set it up yourself; we have already done this for you.

Accessing your account

The easiest way to access your account is via the student portal, myRMIT. If myRMIT is unavailable, you can still access your email via the Gmail login page. If you log in via this page, please note the following:

  • Your Google username is your student number followed by @student.rmit.edu.au e.g. s1234567@student.rmit.edu.au
  • Your default Google password is the letter ‘p’ followed by your date of birth backwards with an exclamation mark ‘!’ at the end e.g. 28 April 1995 is p19950428! You will be prompted to change your password the first time you log in.
  • Do not check ‘Stay signed in’ when accessing from a public or shared computer.

Please note that if you have changed your RMIT network password since 11 March 2013, your password for the RMIT network and your student email account will be the same. If you would like to sync your passwords now, change your password.

Also, remember to establish a challenge question in case you forget your password.

Switch between Gmail accounts

If you already have a personal Gmail account, you can easily switch between it and your RMIT student email account. To find out how to open multiple Gmail accounts at once and switch between them, visit the Google mail help site.

Keep up to date!

When you enrol at RMIT you agree to the Statement of student responsibilities to log in to myRMIT at least twice a week to check important announcements and your RMIT student email account. The University uses these channels to publish official communications so it’s essential to log in regularly and keep up to date.

Privacy

RMIT’s email system is on a secure domain and privacy protections have been implemented to ensure no unauthorised access of use. For more information about student privacy, please visit the privacy statement.
