Statute 5.6 – Awards in conjunction with other institutions
1. The University may in conjunction with another institution confer any award specified in the Regulations made by the Council pursuant to this Statute provided that the following requirements are satisfied:
(a) The award must be a University award in accordance with the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology Act 1992. The testamur may indicate that the relevant course was conducted in conjunction with another institution. That other institution may also affix its seal to the testamur.
(b) There must be no legal impediment to the granting of the award.
(c) A graduate will be entitled to one award only, rather than separate awards from each institution.
(d) An agreement must be entered into between the University and the other institution to cover the above requirements, the terms upon which such an award may be granted and the requirements of any regulations made pursuant to this Statute. The agreement should preferably be in the form of an “umbrella” agreement between the two institutions which sets the terms and conditions for the issue of any award course which the two institutions agree to offer.
2. The Council may make Regulations with respect to:
(a) the requirements for any award including the maximum period that a candidate may be enrolled for that award;
(b) the requirements for the conferring of any award in conjunction with another institution whether such conferring shall be at a graduation ceremony or in absentia including the payment of any graduation fees and any other monies owing to the University; and
(c) prescribing or providing for any other matter for which it is necessary or expedient to prescribe or provide for the purposes f this Statute.
3. Regulations made pursuant to this Statute will come into effect when displayed on the university’s Statutes and Regulations Website.
