Thai workshop focuses on women's health
Two RMIT University academics have strengthened links with Thai counterparts, running workshops in Bangkok on women's health.

About 80 staff at Mahidol University heard Eleanor Holroyd, Professor of Asia and Gender Nursing, present on women's health.
Professor Holroyd also spoke on collaboration to reach the World Health Organization's (WHO) Global Millennium Development Goals.
Midwifery expert, Dr Linda Jones, spoke to the audience of clinical staff, academic staff and students from all four years of Mahidol's Bachelor of Nursing program on continuity of care models.
The two RMIT academics are applying for an Australian Executive Endeavour Award for a Thai midwife to attend a six-week clinical practice visit at Sunshine Hospital in Melbourne, focusing on continuity of care midwifery models.
Professor Holroyd said the visit to Bangkok built on earlier Australian-Thai collaboration.
"In 2007, I visited Thailand to explore postgraduate education on women's health based on WHO millennium goals.
"In November last year, two Thai academics visited RMIT. Dr Ameporn Ratinthorn and Dr Chaweewan Yusamran presented 'Midwifery practice in Thailand' and research on 'Breastfeeding experiences in Thai working mothers'.
"Dr Chaweewan also presented on 'Thai traditional and cultural practice in childbirth'. The forum shared knowledge about culture and traditional beliefs about childbirth in Thailand, China and Taiwan and Australia."
Professor Holroyd said Thai-Australian collaboration would continue through clinical and community visits, informal gatherings, and the development of a joint abstract for the International Women's Health Research Conference at Mahidol University in November next year.
The conference will focus on partnership models of care delivery and will be followed by a workshop on continuity of care organised by Mahidol and RMIT.
Dr Jones and two Thai academics are submitting a paper on clinical issues in continuity of care models in September to the Thai Nursing Journal.
