Health and community services
RMIT University is a long-standing and internationally recognised provider of education for key health professions. Some of these fields include nursing and midwifery, medical radiations, osteopathy, pharmacy, laboratory medicine, optical dispensing, dental assisting psychology, Chinese medicine and remedial massage. The university also brings information technology and engineering expertise and innovation to research partnerships in areas such as e-health solutions, biomedical electronics and engineering, and disease management.
RMIT’s Health Innovations Research Institute applies a cross-disciplinary approach to addressing contemporary health challenges. Research is aimed at translating biomedical discoveries into therapeutic outcomes for diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, insulin resistance and diabetes, obesity, arthritis, mental health diseases and stroke.
RMIT has numerous active research partnerships ranging from collaborations with local health and community groups to global alliances with the World Health Organisation and other multilateral organisations. In 2010, RMIT established Australia’s first Chinese Medicine Confucius Institute in a collaborative project with Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine.
Our community services focus includes education in justice, social work, aged care, disability, planning and occupational health and safety, amongst many others. RMIT’s Centre for Applied Social Research has a strong record in partnering with industry, government and community organisations to conduct research on issues of social welfare and employment.
