RMIT University’s inaugural sustainability festival is on Wednesday, 18 May.

Explore your creativity and learn how easy it is to be fashionably green at RMIT University’s inaugural sustainability festival and conference day, Commune@RMIT Brunswick, on Wednesday, 18 May.

Commune@RMIT Brunswick will feature speakers, creative workshops and exciting market stalls selling textiles, crafts, reworked garments and Fairtrade products, as well as organic and vegan food.

Other activities will include a clothes and fabric swap, bike repair workshops and “Conversations over Tea Cosies”, a community project led by RMIT students that found novel uses for old jumpers.

There will also be several workshops offered throughout the day including heat transfer dyeing, Green Futuring, Zero-waste children’s clothing demonstrations and a deconstruction/reconstruction clothing workshop.

Festival guests will include Peppermint Magazine, Zero Carbon Moreland and Ethical Clothing Australia. Speakers include Cecilia Granadino (MINKA Fair Trade), Grace McQuilten (The Social Studio), Georgia McCorkill (The Red Carpet Project) and Swedish fashion “hacktivist”, Otto von Busch.
