Donation of goods and services

Donation of goods is another way to support RMIT and its students. A range of donors have supported the University in this way, from donation of equipment to the printing school, to donation of tools and engines to the RMIT Formula SAE Team.

You can also donate your time to RMIT. If you are an industry professional you can be a guest speaker, lecturer, program advisor or mentor. This highly practical way of handing down knowledge and experience is a wonderful complement to the University’s teaching and research programs.

Matching gifts

There are a growing number of organizations with matching gift programs, whereby donations from employees are matched by their employer. You may wish to speak to your employer to determine whether this kind of programs is something your organisation would support.

Cultural gifts

Paintings, book collections, film, sculpture and other resources can all be given to the University, which is a registered recipient under the Cultural Gifts Program of the Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts. The program provides tax incentives to encourage gifts of culturally significant items from private collections to Australia’s public art galleries, museums, libraries and archives.

Others

There are other ways that a business can support RMIT such as:

Sponsorship

The University welcomes corporate sponsorship and partnership. Examples:

  • The Australian Defence Organisation (ADO) - ADO has developed a scholarship with RMIT to aid students with their studies and to give them the opportunity to work for the ADO.
  • Siemens – Siemens provides fellowships for postgraduate Fine Arts students, the Siemens Science Experience and the Siemens Prize for Innovation.
  • Fuji Xerox – Fuji Xerox sponsored the “Pursuit of Excellence Award” at the 2007 Printing Industry Training Awards gaining exposure at the event, in publicity material and on the RMIT web site.

Conduct collaborative research with RMIT

Our approach is to develop a mutually-beneficial relationship that maximises access and collaboration. For example RMIT collaborates with:

  • Bioproperties Australia – RMIT was commissioned to develop a live Salmonella vaccine for use on chicken and dairy farms, reducing the risk of human infection. It was registered for use in the USA in 2001.
  • Telstra – RMIT’s Telstra Home Team conduct research projects for Telstra. Projects have included Medinet, which examined the relationship between health service providers and patients.
  • Futuris - RMIT are researching and designing vehicle seat adjuster mechanisms in partnership with Futuris Automotive Interiors, suppliers to Ford and GM Holden.
  • Geo-Eng Australia – RMIT created the first solar pond in Australia to provide heat for commercial use.

Work-integrated learning

Employers want graduates with commercial experience that will add value to their organisation. Many areas of the University have funded learning opportunities within companies – Work Integrated Learning – that provide benefits for the company, the student and the University. The RMIT International Industry Experience and Research Program (RIIERP) meets this demand, providing our partner companies with high-calibre, motivated students. Established in 1992, this is the only program of its kind in Australia, operating in partnership with 140 global companies. Visit RIIERP for more information.

Employ a graduate

The University’s Career Development and Employment unit can help you find industry ready graduates and postgraduates. Opportunities include on-campus information sessions, participation in Careers Expos, advertisements to enrolled students and alumni.
